Hi Everyone,
just wanted to remind everyone that it's Burns Night tonight. Mr Burns is a very very famous poet who was born in Scotland in 1759.
People have been having Burns Suppers since 1802 when they got together on 29th January, which they thought was Mr. Burn's birthday. By the next year, they found out that he was born on the 25th, silly Billies!
Well, I hope all my friends in Scotland have a great night and don't forget you don't have to be Scottish people to join in.
They've been having burns nights in New Zealand since the 1800's, but Charlie told me that Haggis was banned for years in the USA. Not a lot of people know that! So, wherever you are, if you can catch a Haggis, why not join in the celebration?
Mr.P is taking us to San Javier now to see if we can catch a Haggis in Sunny Spain. I think we're going out with Mr.J and Mrs.H tonight, I wonder if there'll be Haggis on the menu.
Got to go, but if your wondering what the "Chieftain o' the pudding-race" is all about check out these two verses of Mr Burns poem
'Address to a Haggis'
Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o' the puddin-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye wordy o' a grace
As lang's my arm.
Ye Pow'rs wha mak mankind your care,
And dish them out their bill o' fare,
Auld Scotland wants nae skinking ware
That jaups in luggies;
But, if ye wish her gratefu' prayer,
Gie her a haggis!
If you're not very good at reading Scottish words like me, I think this is what Mr. Burns was saying...
Fair is your honest happy face
Great chieftain of the pudding race
Above them all you take your place
Stomach, tripe or guts
Well are you worthy of a grace
As long as my arm
You powers who make mankind your care
And dish them out their meals
Old Scotland wants no watery food
That splashes in dishes
But if you wish her grateful prayer
Give her a haggis!
If you like Mr. Burns Poem there are another six verses about the haggis and he's done loads more and there's 559 on this link...

uh lol
ReplyDeletei htought you were referring to mr burns from the simpsons
and considering the high quality of satirical poetry you've wielded there, i'd say he's just as meritous as our american friend roflol
btw, that looks absolutely disgusting
I agree with you on the one pic!!! Tiddy x
